wikipedia
Fort Zakroczym, one of the forts of the Modlin Fortress, was built in the 1880s as part of the construction of the first ring of forts. Its main purpose was to secure the western section of the fortress. Architecturally, the fort was designed according to the standard "F1879" model, featuring a unique solution in the form of a broken neck, which allowed for a better field of fire from the caponier. The fort underwent multiple modernizations and currently consists of brick, two-story barracks, numerous shelters, and concrete elements such as caponiers and counterscarps. It is worth highlighting the large, three-story neck caponier, which also serves as an interfield traditor. From a historical perspective, the fort was not attacked by the Germans in 1915, but in 1939, during World War II, heavy fighting took place here. During the occupation, the fort served as a transit camp for residents of Warsaw, which is commemorated by a plaque on the site. Today, it houses the headquarters of a local food cooperative, but there are no plans for its adaptation for tourism, despite its favorable location near the important S7 route connecting Warsaw and Gdańsk. Fort Zakroczym is a valuable monument of military architecture, and its rich history may be of interest to tourists and researchers alike.
