Górowo Iławeckie is a rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, located in Bartoszyce County, near the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast in Russia. The administrative seat of the municipality is the town of Górowo Iławeckie, which was part of the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998. In 2011, the municipality had a population of 7,189, which decreased to 6,811 by 2019. The municipality covers an area of 416.27 km², with a significant proportion of agricultural land (61%) and forests (28%). The rivers Wałsza, Elma, and Stradyk flow through the area, and there are lakes such as Mulen, Jesionowy Staw, and Martwe. The municipality is rich in protected areas, including the Jezioro Martwe Nature Reserve and part of the Natura 2000 site Ostoja Warmińska. It also features natural monuments, including 64 living and 2 non-living nature monuments. Among the ecological sites, areas protecting the cloudberry and the feeding grounds of the white stork are notable. Górowo Iławeckie includes three Protected Landscape Areas and two natural-landscape complexes. The municipality consists of numerous villages and settlements, many of which have local traditions and a rich history. With its natural wealth and protection of endangered species, Górowo Iławeckie is an interesting part of the Warmian-Masurian region, offering both remarkable natural attractions and a vibrant local culture.
