wikipedia
Galew is a village in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within Turek County, in the administrative district of Brudzew. It is situated on the Turek Upland, near the provincial road No. 470, and is known for Górka Galewska (Galew Hill). The history of the village dates back to 1487, and its name also appears in various historical documents as Galewo. The village was once associated with the Przechadzki family, thanks to whom the local church was built, as well as the primary school in 1920. The Church of the Transfiguration, built in 1845, has played a significant role in local history as a site of prayer processions and pilgrimages, especially during the feast day celebrated on August 6th, which has its origins in a spiritual event linked to the cholera epidemic of 1837. An interesting aspect of Galew's culture is the thanksgiving pilgrimage, which continues to this day, as well as local beliefs associated with the feast day, where it is traditionally avoided to work on that day. The primary school in Galew, established on the initiative of the local parish priest, has a rich history dating back to the times of the partitions when teaching was conducted in Polish. In addition to architectural and religious traditions, a key institution in the local community is the Volunteer Fire Department, which has been operating since 1920. Today, Galew is a village that not only cherishes its historical heritage but also adapts to modernity, developing education and engaging residents in various cultural initiatives.
