wikipedia
The Gallery of Good Art, now a branch of the Częstochowa Museum, is housed in a historic building from 1875, located at the corner of Najświętszej Maryi Panny Avenue and Nowowiejski Street. Originally, it served as a rectory for Orthodox clergy and, during the interwar period, was the residence of the bishops of Częstochowa. After the building was handed over to the District Museum in Częstochowa in 1973, the Gallery of Contemporary Art was opened there. Following a renovation in 2007, a permanent exhibition of pilgrimage memorabilia related to the Jasna Góra Sanctuary was organized. Despite hosting temporary exhibitions, particularly on sacred themes, the building failed to attract significant interest from pilgrims and tourists, resulting in budget constraints. After an audit of the city’s museums in 2010, the institution was transformed into the Gallery of Good Art. In 2013, the headquarters of the Częstochowa Museum’s directorate was moved to the former rectory, and part of the collection was transferred to another branch. That same summer, a permanent exhibition of Polish painting from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was organized, predating the establishment of the Museum of Pilgrimage, underscoring the gallery’s significance in the context of the region’s culture and art.
