Gdańsk Osowa

Gdańsk Osowa railway station, located in the Osowa district at Barniewicka Street, is an important hub on railway lines no. 201, 235, and 248. It was opened on November 9, 1930, under its original name, Osowa. Architecturally, the station building, constructed in the Bydgoszcz-Gdynia style, stands out with its three-block structure, which includes residential quarters for station staff and a waiting hall. Before modernization, the station had two uncovered platforms, which were later roofed over. After a renovation between 2014 and 2015, the surroundings were transformed into a more modern space. The station serves as a key transport interchange, featuring a bus loop that accommodates several city lines, including night services. Historically, Gdańsk Osowa is part of the northern section of the Coal Trunk Line, designed to connect Silesia with the port of Gdynia. After World War II, the station restored local connections, but administrative changes in 1973 limited its functions, leading to the dismantling of some tracks. Despite this, Gdańsk Osowa remained active as a passing station, primarily serving regional Polregio services. An interesting fact is that in 2001, during floods in Gdańsk, the station hosted Intercity trains as a diversion. Modernization plans from 2021 aim to transform the station into an integrated transport hub, underscoring its continued importance in local transit.
