Darów

W skrócie

wikipedia
Darów is a settlement in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within Krosno County, known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The village, established in 1559, was initially a noble-owned property and was associated with the Catholic parish in Nowotaniec and the Greek Catholic parish in Surowica. Over the centuries, Darów changed hands multiple times and was almost completely destroyed after World War II, when its residents were resettled. The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God, built in 1927, was an important architectural landmark, but it was abandoned and dismantled after 1946. Today, only elements of the church’s furnishings remain in Nowotaniec. Darów is also home to a cemetery where over 850 people are buried. Its older tombstones have been restored and maintained in good condition by local associations. In the rural area, only a few buildings remain, mostly related to forestry. Within the settlement, visitors can find interesting cultural remnants, such as roadside shrines and crosses. Darów is also linked to Karol Wojtyła (the future Pope John Paul II), who spent a night there in 1957 and celebrated Holy Mass. Today, the village is inhabited only by employees of the Darów Forestry District. It also offers various hiking trails that attract nature and history enthusiasts.
