Gnojno is a rural commune located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in Busko County, with its seat in the town of Gnojno, formerly known as Janowice. The commune covers an area of 96.10 km², and as of the end of 2010, it was inhabited by 4,601 people. The land use structure of the commune shows that 78% of the area is agricultural land, while 15% is forested. The commune includes 27 localities divided into 26 village administrative districts (sołectwa).
In terms of history and architecture, the area is rich in heritage sites, including the Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Tekla from 1470 and a Gothic charnel house, which testify to the region's long religious tradition. A Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk and a defensive manor house from the second half of the 16th century in Gnojno further enrich the local architectural landscape. In Balice, there is also a Baroque church dedicated to St. Stanislaus.
The commune is surrounded by neighboring municipalities: Busko-Zdrój, Chmielnik, Pierzchnica, Stopnica, Szydłów, and Tuczępy, which fosters integration and cultural exchange. In 2016, the commune's income per capita was 3,932 PLN, while expenditures amounted to 4,141 PLN, illustrating key aspects of local financial management.
