Gogolow

Gogołów is a village in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, with approximately 1,500 inhabitants, situated along the Gogołówka stream. The locality boasts a rich history dating back to the 14th century, when it was granted German town rights. Legend has it that the name "Gogołów" originates from a hunting expedition by King Casimir the Great targeting wild ducks, known as *gogoły*. Gogołów is home to the historic Church of St. Catherine, built in 1672 and surrounded by a 19th-century stone wall. The church, listed as a historic monument, features late Gothic architectural elements along with Baroque and Rococo details in its interior. The parish cemetery includes the Denker family tomb chapel, constructed in 1869, which commemorates the victims of the Galician slaughter. Among the notable figures associated with Gogołów is Ignacy Marceli Kruszewski, an aide-de-camp to General Sowiński, decorated with the Virtuti Militari and the patron of the local school complex. The village also offers tourist attractions, including the Wooden Architecture Trail, which draws visitors interested in local architecture and history.
