Historically, the municipality was part of the Kingdom of Poland, belonging to the Konin County in the Kalisz Governorate. After regaining independence in 1919, its status remained unregulated until July 31, 1921, when it was formally recognized as an urban municipality. Over the past two decades, the population has increased from 11,299 in 2004 to 12,079 in 2019. The municipality covers an area of 99.05 km², dominated by agricultural land, which accounts for 83% of the area, and forests, covering 7%. An interesting cultural aspect is the presence of Volunteer Fire Departments and Rural Housewives' Circles, which are active in local communities, organizing various events. The municipality is home to four primary schools and several village administrative units (sołectwa), reflecting its diverse social structure. Golina borders several other municipalities, such as Kazimierz Biskupi, Konin, and Słupca, fostering regional cooperation.
