Gorzyce is a village in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, located in the Tarnobrzeg County, along the Sandomierz–Stalowa Wola route, near the confluence of the Łęg River and the Vistula. It is the seat of the Gorzyce municipality and a known industrial center, home to the football club Stal Gorzyce, as well as companies such as Federal-Mogul and Alumetal. The history of Gorzyce dates back to the end of the 11th century, when a guard post of the Sandomierz stronghold was established here. In the Middle Ages, the village was a crossroads of important trade routes. In 1702, the Battle of Wrzawa took place, in which Prince Józef Poniatowski participated, and among literary references, Henryk Sienkiewicz set parts of his novel "The Deluge" here.
Architecturally, the Church of St. Francis de Sales draws attention, with a history dating back to 1138, having undergone numerous reconstructions and consecrations over the centuries, including a fire in 1944. It was rebuilt between 1947 and 1950, and its modern appearance was achieved during an expansion from 1997 to 2000. Gorzyce also features diverse building styles, with single-family homes in the rural part and multi-family buildings in the housing estates.
Gorzyce is also an important location on the educational map, with a kindergarten and two primary schools. The Gorzyce housing estate, dominated by multi-family and industrial buildings, is a key social and economic hub, home to over 10,000 residents. An interesting fact is that the actor Janusz Bukowski was born here in 1941. Local media, such as Radio Leliwa and various press titles, also operate in Gorzyce.
