wikipedia
Grębków is a rural municipality in the Masovian Voivodeship, within Węgrów County, with its administrative seat located in the village of Grębków. From 1975 to 1998, the municipality was part of the Siedlce Voivodeship. In 2004, the population of the municipality was 4,650. The area includes several villages, some of which, such as Antoniew and Zalesie, have faded from memory, while others, like Grębków, Jabłonna, and Żarnówka, have survived to the present day. Interestingly, Grodek is now known as Ogródek, and Polków and Sagały now form a single village. Historically, Grębków Municipality had a diverse religious structure—the local parish was home to 2,048 Catholics and 67 Jews. Between 1898 and 1902, the then parish priest, Father Ludwik Michał Mystkowski, built a Neo-Gothic church dedicated to St. Bartholomew the Apostle, funded by Eleonora and Stanisław Brogowicz. The church witnessed bloody religious conflicts in 1905, when clashes broke out between Catholics and Mariavites. In 1917, Grębków had four schools, reflecting a well-developed educational life in the region. Today, the municipality is home to followers of various denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Old Catholic Mariavite Church, the Evangelical-Augsburg Church, and Jehovah's Witnesses. Grębków Municipality borders the municipalities of Kałuszyn, Kotuń, Liw, Mokobody, and Wierzbno. Its administrative structure includes numerous village districts (sołectwa), such as Aleksandrówka, Grodzisk, Nowa Sucha, and Proszew. Thus, the municipality is a place rich in history, with fascinating changes in local place names and valuable sacral architecture that reflects the diversity of local religious traditions.
