Grochowalsk is a village located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Lipno County, within the municipality of Dobrzyń nad Wisłą. It is primarily known for its manor complex from the late 19th century, which includes a manor house, a park, and a distillery, all listed in the register of historical monuments. The village also features a wooden parish church of the Holy Cross from 1784, which is also recognized as a historical monument. The history of Grochowalsk dates back to the Middle Ages when the village was part of the Dobrzyń castellany. The first mentions of the settlement come from a document issued by Bolesław I of Masovia in 1244. Settlement in the region developed from the mid-10th century. Over the centuries, the village passed through the hands of numerous owners, including the prominent Grochowalski family, whose members played a significant role in the local community and history. Additionally, in Grochowalsk, on the initiative of Stefan Gościcki, a Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1905. In the 20th century, the village experienced many difficult events, including the German occupation during World War II, which began in September 1939. After the war, Grochowalsk became part of various municipalities and voivodeships, and until 1999, it was located in Lipno County within the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Modern village life centers around agricultural traditions and the preservation of local historical monuments, attracting the attention of tourists and historians.
