wikipedia
Grohman's Gates, located at 46 Targowa Street in Łódź, is a historic entrance gate to the Grohman factory, designed by Franciszek Chełmiński in 1896. It features neo-Gothic architecture made of unplastered red brick. A distinctive element is the arches decorated with columns shaped like thread spools, which gave the structure its name. The taller arch of the gate is adorned with a jagged peak reminiscent of medieval castles, and at its top, there once stood an Art Nouveau eagle sculpture. This eagle survived the wartime occupation but disappeared after 1950. From 1945 to 1989, the building served as the headquarters of the "Uniontex" Cotton Industry Plant. Today, following a thorough renovation in 2008, Grohman's Gates are part of the Łódź Special Economic Zone. It is a significant element of the city's cultural and industrial heritage, drawing attention due to its unique architectural features and the fascinating stories behind its preserved decorative elements.
