wikipedia
Gryfów Śląski, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is a town with a rich history dating back to the 13th century, when its founding is attributed to the Silesian Duke Bolesław Rogatka or Duke Bolko I. Formerly known as Greiffenberg, the town has preserved numerous historical monuments, including the late Gothic St. Hedwig's Church from the 17th century and a 16th-century town hall that has undergone multiple renovations. Gryfów is home to the Municipal Cultural Center and Public Library, which engage residents in cultural life through the organization of exhibitions, concerts, and outdoor events. The town is also the seat of various associations, including the Society of Lovers of Gryfów Śląski. Gryfów has established numerous partnerships with foreign cities, fostering cultural exchange. Throughout its history, the town has experienced many upheavals, including destruction during the Hussite Wars and epidemics, but later benefited from economic growth in the 16th century, primarily due to linen production. Gryfów serves as an excellent base for tourists, offering access to Złotnickie and Leśniańskie Lakes, as well as hiking trails rich in natural beauty. An interesting fact is the first local newspaper, published in 1835, and the Renaissance epitaph of the Schaffgotsch family, which stands as a valuable historical relic. The town is also known for the dynamic development of its economic sector, including the furniture and food industries. In 1945, after the war, Gryfów became part of Poland, bringing new challenges in reconstruction and development. Today, Gryfów Śląski, with a population of 6,617 according to 2019 data, combines its historical heritage with modern economic and cultural growth.
