Lwówecki County, established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, is located in the western part of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Its seat is Lwówek Śląski, a town with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The county includes urban-rural municipalities such as Gryfów Śląski, Lubomierz, Mirsk, and Wleń. It borders the counties of Bolesławiec, Lubań, Karkonosze, and Złotoryja, as well as the Czech Republic through the Frýdlant microregion. The area is home to numerous architectural monuments, including Gothic and Renaissance churches, as well as palaces and public utility buildings that reflect both local and broader European architectural history. The picturesque landscapes of the Izera Mountains and the Karkonosze Mountains also attract tourists.
From a cultural perspective, Lwówecki County organizes numerous events, festivals, and cultural activities that highlight local traditions and customs. It is also a region known for its craftsmanship, folk traditions, and regional music. The county maintains partnership relations with many Ukrainian counties and foreign cities, fostering cultural exchange. An interesting fact is that before January 1, 1999, all municipalities of the county belonged to the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship, and historically, the area has witnessed many significant events. The modern county, aiming for both cultural and economic development, faces challenges such as unemployment, which stood at around 10.8% at the end of 2019. Transportation in the region includes both national roads and railway lines, facilitating connectivity with other cities. Lwówecki County maintains a balance between nature, history, and dynamic development, making it an interesting place to live and visit.
