wikipedia
Hanna Commune, located in the Włodawa County of the Lublin Voivodeship, boasts a rich history dating back to the 10th century, when these lands witnessed the confrontation of Polish and Ruthenian influences. In the 11th century, it came under Ruthenian rule and later belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Brześć Litewski Voivodeship. After 1795, as a result of the partitions, the commune found itself under Austrian rule, then became part of the Duchy of Warsaw, and in subsequent years belonged to various administrative units. Administratively, the commune was organized in various forms: initially as gromadas (village clusters), and then reactivated in 1973. After World War II, it remained part of Włodawa County, and following the 1975 reform, it belonged to the Biała Podlaska Voivodeship for many years. One of the key aspects of the commune is its land structure, dominated by agricultural land (77%) and forests (17%), which contributes to its rural character. The commune includes numerous villages, the most famous of which is Hanna, its seat, with others including Dańce, Dołhobrody, Holeszów, and Pawluki. According to data from June 2004, the commune's population was 3,387 residents, reflecting its small demographic size. The commune borders Belarus and neighbors Belarusian selsoviets (rural councils), giving it a unique cultural character shaped by ethnic diversity and local community traditions. In terms of monuments, the commune's architecture consists mainly of traditional rural buildings that reflect local history and culture. Local traditions and rituals, cherished among residents, are also highly significant, attracting tourists and cultural enthusiasts. An interesting fact is that in the 19th century, the area of the commune became part of the newly created Chełm Governorate. Over time, the commune has survived numerous administrative and social changes while retaining its unique features. Hanna Commune is a place that combines rich history, local culture, and natural beauty, making it an interesting point on the regional map.
