wikipedia
The Holy Trinity Column in Bystrzyca Kłodzka, erected in 1736 by Silesian sculptor Anton Jörg, is a Baroque masterpiece standing approximately 10 meters tall and considered one of the artist's greatest achievements. Located in the town square, the monument features rich architectural elements, including a triangular base adorned with Regency-style ornamentation and a depiction of the Holy Trinity at its peak. Below are statues of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by figures of saints Joseph, Anne, and Joachim, as well as the Archangel Michael. The monument is encircled by delicately decorated balustrades and statues of saints Florian, John of Nepomuk, and Francis Xavier. Crafted from intricately decorated stone, the column symbolizes the Church's struggle against Satan, reflected in depictions of Mary triumphing over evil and Michael subduing a dragon. The structure strikes a remarkable balance between static and dynamic elements, with its lavish ornamentation—including putti and floral motifs—emphasizing its religious themes. Historically, the monument was commissioned by Bystrzyca councilor Casper Rudolf Kleinwächter as a protective measure against fires and plagues. It underwent several renovations in the 19th century, including work by Alexy Ziliacki, and further repairs between 1900 and 1902 by sculptor Eisenberg. In 1950, it was entered into the register of movable monuments by the provincial conservator. The column also served as a tool of religious propaganda, reinforcing Catholic faith in the region amid counter-Reformation efforts, making it a significant part of Bystrzyca Kłodzka's cultural and religious heritage.
