wikipedia
The horse-drawn tram in Mrozy is a unique narrow-gauge tram line, the only one of its kind still operating in Poland. It is located in the Mrozy municipality, within the Mińsk County of the Mazovian Voivodeship. Its history dates back to 1902, when the Warsaw Hygiene Society decided to build a sanatorium for treating lung diseases in Rudka. To facilitate the transport of construction materials, a horse-drawn railway was built, with a route length of 2.5 km, starting from the train station in Mrozy. In 1908, after the completion of the sanatorium, the wooden-structured horse tram began operations, which continued until 1967. Only the wooden sleepers survived from the tracks dismantled in the early 1970s. In 2007, the Society of Friends of Mrozy decided to revive the tramway, but work did not begin until 2011, when the track was rebuilt and open days were organized. The line was officially reopened on August 10, 2012, and the tram now runs regularly for seven months a year on a 1.75 km route. A notable aspect of this revival was the widening of the track gauge to 1000 mm and the construction of a new wagon, a replica of which was crafted by artist Tadeusz Głuszczuk. The tram has boosted local tourism, and an educational trail has been established along the route. In 2012, the Mrozy municipality received the title of "National Leader of Innovation and Development" for the line’s restoration. The horse-drawn tram has also appeared in popular culture, featuring in the 95th episode of the TV series "Ranczo." Today, the line primarily serves tourist transportation, with stops at two stations: one near the sanatorium in Rudka and the other in Mrozy.
