wikipedia
Huszlew is a village in the Masovian Voivodeship, in the Łosice County, with a history dating back to the 9th century. Settlement in the region is reflected in archaeological finds, including a well-preserved early medieval stronghold, one of the oldest in Masovia. The locality was also an important center during feudal times, starting from 1390, when the estate in Huszlew was granted to Abraham of Jaxa. The village changed hands multiple times before eventually coming into the possession of the Woroniecki family, who fostered its development from 1698 until 1944. Architectural remnants of bygone eras include a 19th-century manor complex, featuring a Classicist manor house from 1809 and the ruins of an orangery. The Neo-Gothic Church of St. Anthony of Padua, built in 1867 with its original interior, also stands out in the village landscape. Culturally, Huszlew is known for the activities of its Volunteer Fire Department, established in 1923, which fostered community integration and organized various events. During World War II, the inhabitants faced German occupation policies, leading to organized acts of sabotage in defense of local resources. With its rich architectural, historical, and cultural heritage, Huszlew remains an important element of regional identity, and its history stands as a testament to the long-standing human presence in the area.
