wikipedia
Hydropolis is a unique Ecological Education Center located in Wrocław, combining modern exhibition design with educational values, dedicated to water and its significance in human life and nature. The facility is housed within a 19th-century neo-Gothic reservoir that previously served as a clean water storage tank. Hydropolis opened its doors on December 5, 2015, after a four-year revitalization. It is the only facility of its kind in Poland and one of the few in the world. Architecturally, the reservoir was adapted for its new function while preserving its historic features. The main entrance, added on the southern side, is made of copper, harmonizing with the historical surroundings. The interior of the reservoir consists of four chambers covered with reinforced concrete ceilings, and the entire structure is topped with meadow vegetation, emphasizing the ecological concept of the place. From a cultural perspective, Hydropolis engages visitors through multimedia installations and interactive exhibitions, divided into seven thematic zones, such as The Depths, Ocean of Life, and City and Water. The center features replicas of historical inventions related to water, as well as educational workshops for schools. Notable attractions include a water printer and a replica of the bathyscaphe "Trieste," which capture visitors' attention. Historically, the clean water reservoir operated until 2011 and underwent numerous changes, from a time when water was drawn from the Oder River to its transformation into a modern ecological education facility. Shortly after World War II and following the catastrophic flood of 1997, the facility required renovations. Throughout its existence, it has garnered numerous awards and distinctions, including the prestigious National Geographic Traveler Award and Tripadvisor recognition. Hydropolis has also been acclaimed as the best attraction for children and the best tourist product in Lower Silesia and Poland. Thanks to its uniqueness, it is a place that combines education with entertainment, offering in-depth knowledge about water and its importance in our lives.
