Ignatianum University in Krakow

The Ignatianum University in Krakow, formerly known as the Ignatianum Academy, is a church-run university administered by the Society of Jesus, which has obtained state accreditation to conduct higher education programs. The university consists of two faculties: the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Education, offering a wide range of study programs—from philosophy, psychology, and cultural studies to pedagogy, political science, and public administration. The Jesuit educational tradition and values focus on reflection concerning social justice and intercultural dialogue. The history of the university dates back to 1867, when the Seminarium Cracoviense was established, and in 1934, it gained legal personality. In 1999, the institution was renamed the Higher School of Philosophy and Education "Ignatianum," and in 2011, it became the Ignatianum Academy. In 2023, the university obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees and changed its name to the Ignatianum University in Krakow. The university operates within international organizations such as the European Federation of Catholic Universities and the International Federation of Catholic Universities, promoting academic cooperation. Interestingly, the name "Ignatianum" refers to the jubilees associated with the figure of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the history of the Society of Jesus. The university's authorities, including Rector Dr. Hab. Tomasz Homa, strive for dynamic development, reflected in its rich academic offerings and diverse study programs. The university also places strong emphasis on scientific research, engaging in addressing current social and educational issues.
