wikipedia
IMKA Theatre, founded by Tomasz Karolak in March 2010, is a private theater that initially operated in a pre-war YMCA building at 6 Maria Konopnicka Street in Warsaw. In June 2020, it was relocated to a new venue at 3 Kocjana Street in the Bemowo district. The theater has gained recognition for staging plays by acclaimed directors such as Mikołaj Grabowski, Krystian Lupa, and Maja Kleczewska. In 2014, Karolak was awarded the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, and IMKA Theatre launched the POLSKA W IMCE Festival to promote Polish theater. The founding performance is considered to be *O północy przybyłem do Widawy* (I Arrived in Widawa at Midnight), which premiered in Rzeczyca before being staged in Warsaw. Throughout its history, the theater has produced numerous co-productions, including Poland’s first theater series *Klątwa* (The Curse), and the premiere of *Cienie. Eurydyka mówi* (Shadows. Eurydice Speaks), which received awards for best stage design. The acting workshops held at the theater have also been highly valued and popular since its inception. Since 2013, IMKA Theatre has organized the POLSKA W IMCE Festival, attracting diverse theatrical productions and promoting young creators as well as the variety of Polish theater. IMKA Theatre stands out not only for its exceptional repertoire but also for its adaptations of dramatic classics and contemporary works that reflect evolving social and cultural realities.
