wikipedia
Iwonicz-Zdrój is a picturesque spa town in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, known since 1578 for its healing mineral waters. It is situated in the Low Beskids at an altitude of 410 meters above sea level, in the valley of the Iwonicki Stream, surrounded by beech-fir forests. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, with the first mentions of mineral waters originating from 1413. The town boasts numerous historical monuments, including beautiful wooden villas from the 19th century, inspired by Swiss architectural style. The Church of St. Ivo from 1895 and the Spa House are exceptional examples of local architecture. Iwonicz-Zdrój is also a place of religious significance; legends associate its name with the cult of St. Ivo, and Jan Matejko immortalized Bishop Iwo Odrowąż in a painting related to the history of the settlement. The town was an important center of culture and social life, with the activities of Władysław Bełza and numerous patriotic organizations during the interwar period. The spa specializes in treating disorders of the musculoskeletal, digestive, and respiratory systems, among many other ailments. Well-developed transportation routes lead to Iwonicz-Zdrój, and tourists are attracted by its scenic hiking and cycling trails. An interesting fact is that Józef Piłsudski stayed in Iwonicz-Zdrój, and the town was referred to as the "winter capital of the Rzeszów Voivodeship" in the 1960s. The area also features numerous mineral springs and sanatoriums that attract visitors from across the country and beyond.
