Izbica is a town in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Krasnystaw County, which obtained its town rights in 1750, lost them in 1869, and regained its town status once again in 2022. The locality boasts a rich history dating back to the Neolithic period, with the first written records mentioning it from 1419. Izbica was known as a center of the Jewish community, which dominated in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the unique element of the Hasidic Izbica-Radzyń dynasty. In the 1930s, Izbica was referred to as the "Jewish capital," with a population where Jews constituted about 90%. During World War II, Izbica experienced the tragedy of the Holocaust, becoming the site of a transit ghetto through which approximately 25,000 Jews passed. Architecturally, Izbica can pride itself on a water tower from 1911, multi-story tenement houses from the 19th and 20th centuries, and the ruins of a Jewish synagogue. The town also features monuments commemorating the victims of various conflicts and the site of a Jewish cemetery, which is a significant element of the region's cultural heritage. The flora and fauna around Izbica are diverse, with unique plant species and natural features such as the spring in Kryniczki. Izbica hosts various cultural events and is home to the Municipal Cultural Center. The local football club, GKS "Ruch Izbica," highlights the residents' passion for sports. Izbica is also mentally connected to Jewish tradition, and local institutions and organizations strive to revive this culture through education and commemoration of its history. The town is located along the Warsaw–Lublin–Lviv route and a railway line, making it accessible in terms of transport.
