wikipedia
The Józef Mehoffer Museum of the City of Turek, housed in a 19th-century town hall, is a significant element of the local culture and history. Its origins date back to 1962 with the establishment of the Turek Society of Culture, which organized exhibitions and collected artifacts related to the history of the region. In 1972, the Regional Chamber was opened, and in 1978, it was transformed into the Museum of Weaving Craft, a branch of the District Museum in Konin. After regaining independence in 1984, the museum began operating as a municipal institution. In 2001, the renovation of the town hall began, and in 2012, it reopened after the refurbishment and was renamed the Józef Mehoffer Museum of the City of Turek. The museum features permanent exhibitions, including "Józef Mehoffer’s Turek Work," which showcases his artistic output and designs for stained glass windows in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Other exhibitions include an archaeological display presenting findings from excavations in Gąsin, and an ethnographic exhibition illustrating the daily life of weavers from various countries. Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition "1956 Days in Occupied Turek," based on a unique collection of photographs from the period of Nazi occupation, documenting everyday life during that time. The museum is not only a place to explore local history but also a platform that facilitates understanding of broader cultural processes in the region.
