wikipedia
The Yotvingian-Prussian Settlement in Oszkinie is a private, eco-tourism cultural institution in the form of an open-air museum that reconstructs buildings of the Yotvingian and Prussian cultures. Located on an eight-hectare forested area, it was founded by Piotr Łukaszewicz in 2001. The architecture of the settlement reflects traditional construction techniques, with houses built from logs without the use of nails, and also includes elements such as palisades, watchtowers, stone bridges, and moats. The settlement also gathers glacial erratics with tribal names carved in several languages. Culturally, the site combines elements of Sudovian tradition, bringing closer the history of the Yotvingians and Prussians. During the season, staff dressed in folk costumes serve dishes characteristic of regional cuisines, creating a unique atmosphere. The settlement organizes cyclical tribal rituals, such as Kupala Night, which take place at a stone altar. Accommodation is also offered in rustic conditions, promoting an experience of living in harmony with tradition. Guests can enjoy recreation, bird watching from a viewing tower, and archery at a specially prepared range. The settlement has gained popularity, being the subject of a feature film one and a half hours long and numerous documentaries produced by foreign crews from North and South America, Spain, and South Korea. It was also awarded a second-degree prize in the "Recipe for Success" competition, dedicated to initiatives for the development of local communities. The Yotvingian-Prussian Settlement in Oszkinie is not only a tourist attraction but also an important cultural center, serving as a meeting point for history, education, and recreation.
