wikipedia
The Regional Museum in Jawor is a municipal cultural institution housed in the historic premises of a 15th-century former Bernardine monastery. Established in 1929 as the Heimatmuseum Jauer, it resumed operations in 1949 after World War II. In 1964, the collections were moved to their current location, and the complex underwent renovation between 1978 and 1986. The museum reopened its doors in December 1986 and has since hosted many fascinating exhibitions. Among its permanent displays are the archaeological exhibition "The Jawor Land in Prehistory," which illustrates the history of the region from the Stone Age to the Migration Period, and exhibitions dedicated to local crafts, such as "Old Crafts" and "Jawor Gingerbread," where visitors can admire Baroque goldsmithing artifacts and historic gingerbread molds. Other notable exhibitions include "Crossing the Impossible," focusing on the famous "Peace Churches," and the militaria display "Rifles Growl and Sabres Clash," featuring historic weapons, some dating back to the 14th century. Also worth attention are the ethnographic "Lower Silesian Room," showcasing folk interior decor from the last 200 years, and the "Sudeten Treasury," with its collection of minerals and precious stones. The Gallery of Silesian Sacred Art, located in the church, highlights religious paintings from the 15th to 18th centuries, including polychromes from the 16th and 17th centuries, underscoring the region's artistic significance. The museum also offers the opportunity to climb the tower of the Piast Castle, which provides a panoramic view of the city. An interesting fact about the institution's management is that in 2015, Arkadiusz Muła was succeeded as director by Teresa Chołubek-Spyt. The museum not only emphasizes the architectural beauty of its historic setting but also nurtures local history and culture, making it a significant point of interest on the tourist map of Lower Silesia.
