wikipedia
The Town Hall in Jawor is an impressive structure with a segmented mass, consisting of two massive wings with a stone rusticated base. The Gothic tower, preserved from an earlier construction and standing 65 meters tall, features a lower square section that transitions into an octagonal shape higher up. The tower is adorned with a gallery featuring gargoyles in the form of grotesque masks and a Baroque spire with a double lantern. At the corners of the tower, there are statues of knights holding heraldic shields depicting the rulers of Jawor. The interior of the town hall houses the council chamber, which contains the largest stained-glass windows in the secular architecture of Lower Silesia, created in 1897 based on a design by Julius Jurs. The building serves as the seat of Jawor's local government and administrative authorities, and on its northern wall, there is a commemorative stone dedicated to the "1000th Anniversary of the Polish State" and "Victory Day over Fascism," funded by the residents in 1966. The Town Hall in Jawor has a rich history; the first structure was built in the early 14th century and was subsequently rebuilt multiple times. After tragic fires in 1846 and 1895, the building was demolished, and a new one, designed in the Neo-Renaissance style by Berlin architect H. Guthe, was erected in its place in 1897. Only the tower remains from the original town hall, underscoring the historical value of the entire structure. The Town Hall was entered into the register of monuments of the provincial heritage conservator in 1963 and 1977, highlighting its significance in the cultural heritage of the region. Today, the town hall not only serves an important administrative function but also stands as an example of the harmonious integration of various architectural styles and the rich history of Jawor.
