wikipedia
Jaworzno is a city with county rights, located in the Silesian Voivodeship, with a rich history dating back to the Neolithic era. The first mentions of Jaworzno come from 1229. The city, once part of the Kraków region, was known as an important industrial center, especially after the establishment of the first Polish coal mine in 1767. Jaworzno was part of the Free City of Kraków and, after the three partitions, found itself under Austrian rule. In the 19th century, it developed significantly due to industry, resulting in the creation of power plants and steel mills. The architecture of Jaworzno is diverse, including public utility buildings such as the Municipal Center of Culture and Sports and the Jaworzno City Museum, which preserve local history and tradition. The city is home to many valuable religious sites, such as the Collegiate Church of St. Adalbert and St. Catherine and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Jaworzno is the workplace of many famous artists, such as Basia Trzetrzelewska. The contemporary cultural life of the city is enriched by numerous festivals, concerts, and the Days of Jaworzno. An interesting fact is that Jaworzno was one of the cities with the largest number of power plants in the world. In 2016, Jaworzno withdrew from the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union, highlighting its pursuit of independence. The city has a diverse transport infrastructure, including both a developed road network and modernized public transport, making it an attractive place to live and work.
