wikipedia
Jelenia Góra Station, located about 2 km from the city center, is a major railway hub in Lower Silesia, classified by Polish State Railways (PKP) as a regional station. Its building, designed by Hermann Cuno and constructed between 1865 and 1866, combines elements of Neoclassicism and Neo-Gothic styles. The structure features an eclectic sandstone façade with a classicizing pediment and friezes imitating the Doric order. The station underwent multiple expansions, including in 1882 and 1904–1906, as well as a modernization after 2000 that restored its original appearance. The station has four passenger platforms, and train traffic is managed from the modern JG signal box, although there are also disused signal box buildings. It is worth noting that accompanying infrastructure, including a partially preserved locomotive depot, remained in use until the end of 2015. The station's history dates back to 1866, with the construction of the Silesian Mountain Railway. This was the first line connecting Jelenia Góra with Wrocław, significantly boosting regional transport development. Over the following years, the station was modernized, electrified, and new connections were established. Before World War II, it served as a strategic hub, offering fast connections to major cities like Berlin. After 1945, despite war damage and the need for reconstruction, the station was quickly taken over by Polish railways. During the communist era, the station underwent a series of modernizations, but services were gradually reduced. After 1989, the closure of unprofitable lines diminished the station's importance. However, revitalization efforts began in the 21st century. Between 2016 and 2017, platforms and infrastructure were modernized, allowing for the restoration of some long-distance connections. Today, the station serves not only as a transfer point but also as a link connecting the local community with broader national networks. A bus stop located near the station facilitates connections with other carriers, underscoring its regional significance. With its rich railway history, Jelenia Góra has much to offer, and its station remains a vital part of the local infrastructure.
