Throughout its history, the town has experienced many upheavals, including the Teutonic Knights' invasion in 1331, which destroyed the town, and devastation during the Swedish Deluge in the 17th century. In the 19th century, Kłecko became a center of resistance against Germanization, and its residents participated in the Greater Poland Uprising of 1918–1919. In 1939, during World War II, the town suffered brutal repression at the hands of German occupiers, commemorated by a monument to the victims. Kłecko celebrated the 750th anniversary of its town charter in 2005, remaining an active cultural and social center with a rich historical heritage and attractive landmarks.
