Kłecko

Kłecko, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, in the Gniezno County, is a town with a rich history that received its town charter in 1265. Its main landmark is a Gothic church from the 14th century, which underwent renovation in 1930. Kłecko is also home to a late Renaissance main altar by Mateusz Kossior and a natural monument—the "Zawisza" oak tree. The town is situated on the Gniezno Lakeland, between Kłeckie Lake and Gorzuchowskie Lake, making it an attractive destination for tourists. In the Middle Ages, Kłecko was an important trade and defense hub, and today it attracts visitors with attractions such as the Trail of Kłecko Temples. Throughout its history, the town has experienced many upheavals, including the Teutonic Knights' invasion in 1331, which destroyed the town, and devastation during the Swedish Deluge in the 17th century. In the 19th century, Kłecko became a center of resistance against Germanization, and its residents participated in the Greater Poland Uprising of 1918–1919. In 1939, during World War II, the town suffered brutal repression at the hands of German occupiers, commemorated by a monument to the victims. Kłecko celebrated the 750th anniversary of its town charter in 2005, remaining an active cultural and social center with a rich historical heritage and attractive landmarks.
