wikipedia
Kamieniec Castle, situated on the border between Korczyna and Odrzykoń, is a Gothic structure from the 14th century, later rebuilt in the Renaissance style during the 16th century. Not by chance erected at an altitude of 452 meters above sea level, it served as a crucial defensive point on the border between the Kingdom of Poland and Hungary. The castle was first documented in 1348 when it was granted to the knight Klemens of Moskorzew. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of many owners, including the Kamieniecki family, who significantly contributed to its expansion. In 1396, Klemens Kamieniecki built the upper castle and the outer bailey, and in 1407, the family began using the surname Kamieniecki, underscoring their ties to the fortress. The castle hosted many important historical figures, including King Władysław Jagiełło and Hetman Mikołaj Kamieniecki, who received the castle in 1508. During its heyday, it was a site of political intrigues and upheavals. Klemens Kamieniecki sold part of the castle to Queen Bona’s banker, Seweryn Boner, who rebuilt the lower castle and hosted Faustus Socinus. In later years, the castle frequently changed hands, and in 1657, it witnessed a defensive struggle against Rákóczi’s forces, which led to significant damage. Despite this, the castle survived, and after the Swedish Deluge, it was partially rebuilt, later becoming the property of various noble families, including the Jabłonowskis, who stationed troops of the Bar Confederation here. In the 19th century, the castle was partially divided, and in the 20th century, attempts were made to restore it. Kamieniec Castle is regarded as a symbol of the region’s rich history and houses a small museum that collects artifacts related to its remarkable past. The castle is also surrounded by the legend of the dwarf Kasia, who is said to have appeared there after her death, adding an air of romance and mystery. Today, the castle is an important tourist attraction that draws history and architecture enthusiasts, while remaining a witness to Poland’s turbulent history.
