wikipedia
Karpień Castle, situated atop Mount Karpiak in the Golden Mountains, is a valuable element of the region's historical and architectural heritage. Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages, when it was likely founded by the Croats tribe. The castle served as an important defensive point, guarding trade routes in the area of the Upper Biała Lądecka Valley. In the 14th century, the castle became a noble residence, with its first known owner being Thamo Glubos the Elder. With the development of the feudal state, Karpień gained significance, and in the 15th century, it became a site of conflicts, including with Hussite forces, which led to its repeated destruction. Eventually, the castle was abandoned in the 16th century, and its ruins became a refuge for robbers. In the 17th century, Karpień began to attract tourists, and local associations took steps to protect and develop the site. Today, only the foundations and remnants of the castle can be seen, yet they testify to its former grandeur. The ruins are protected as a historical monument, and the area around the castle has become part of tourist trails, contributing to its further promotion. Archaeological research conducted in the 19th and 21st centuries has helped uncover the castle's history, but its technical condition remains concerning, and the lack of conservation threatens further deterioration. Thus, Karpień Castle is not only an important historical site but also an educational place that reminds us of the region's rich past.
