wikipedia
Kaszczor, formerly known as Ptowo and Stary Klasztor, is a village with a rich history located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Wolsztyn County. Its origins date back to at least the 13th century, with the first written records mentioning the settlement appearing in 1210. The Cistercian Order settled here in 1278, which led to the village being renamed Stary Klasztor (Old Monastery), and later, Kaszczor. Historically, the village has been associated with several important figures, including Duke Władysław Odonic and King Casimir III the Great, who confirmed the monastery's possessions. Architecturally, Kaszczor is notable for its two post windmills, including the largest one in Greater Poland. The village also features a 19th-century kindergarten building, which originally served as the first evangelical church. Other points of interest include an early 20th-century evangelical church with a viewing tower and the remains of an old Catholic church. Additionally, remnants of a former Polish-German border crossing and the Monument of Liberty, rebuilt in 2011 for the 80th anniversary of its destruction by occupiers, add to the village's historical significance. With its unique urban layout and historical buildings, Kaszczor is an important stop on the Cistercian Trail, offering a rich cultural and historical heritage that attracts tourists and history enthusiasts alike.
