Kołobrzeg Lighthouse

The Kołobrzeg Lighthouse, located on the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea, is an important navigational point and a popular tourist attraction. Its history dates back to 1666, when a navigation light was first lit using the tower of a port building. In the 19th century, the lighthouse was modernized with a Fresnel lens lamp, and in 1899, a new half-timbered tower was built, which was replaced by a more solid brick structure in 1909. The lighthouse was severely damaged in 1945 when it was blown up by German forces. After the war, it was rebuilt in a new location on the foundations of a fort, symbolizing the victory over Germany. Between 1979 and 1981, it underwent a major renovation, with additional enhancements such as illumination added in the following years. Today, the lighthouse stands 26 meters tall, with its light situated at a height of 36 meters and a range of 16 nautical miles. It also holds significant cultural importance, serving as a symbol of Kołobrzeg, and its image appears on commemorative coins. In 2022, it began to be transformed into the Monument to Polish Soldiers, further emphasizing its role in the region's history. Interestingly, the lighthouse has been part of the city's infrastructure, and its surroundings feature miniature replicas and various thematic exhibitions, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts alike.
