Kołbiel, formerly known as the Rudno commune, is a rural municipality located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Otwock County. Its administrative seat is the town of Kołbiel. The municipality boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, having witnessed administrative changes over the years—between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the Siedlce Voivodeship. From a demographic perspective, in 2012, the municipality had a population of 8,089, and by the end of 2019, this number had increased to 8,230. The Kołbiel municipality consists of 31 auxiliary units, including 28 villages that form 29 village councils (sołectwa) and 3 colonies. Among the most important village councils are Bolechówek, Kujawki, and Wilczarz. The municipality covers an area of 106.5 km², of which 71.5% is agricultural land, 19.9% is forested land, and 8.6% is built-up areas and roads. Kołbiel is also home to diverse architecture, ranging from traditional rural buildings to modern structures. Local culture is nurtured by 13 volunteer fire departments that engage in activities for the benefit of local communities. The municipality also hosts various cultural events that foster community integration and promote local traditions. Kołbiel borders municipalities such as Celestynów, Mińsk Mazowiecki, Osieck, Pilawa, Siennica, and Wiązowna, which facilitates cultural exchange and cooperation among local communities.
