wikipedia
Sufczyn is a village located in the Masovian Voivodeship, in the Otwock County, within the administrative district of the municipality of Kołbiel, on the Świder River. The history of the locality dates back to the 15th century, when it was first mentioned in the "Book of the Czersk Land" in 1408 as Suchczin, and later as Susczin. It is the ancestral home of noble families, such as the Sufczyńskis, who acquired wealth and influence in the region. Mikołaj of Sufczyn contributed to the construction of the church in Kołbiel, which reflects the religious significance of the area. Sufczyn was a private, noble village, whose inhabitants over time established new settlements, such as Głupianka and Wola Sufczyńska. In the 16th century, the village was characterized by a fragmented ownership structure, which led to frequent sales of estates by its heirs. In the 18th century, Sufczyn regained its ancestral lands due to the privileged position of the Sufczyński family, who became wealthy nobility. Key moments in the history of Sufczyn include the bombing in 1944, which killed 11 people, and the destruction caused by a hurricane in 1958. Today, the village is small, with preserved traces of historic architecture, including the manor of the former owners and an old cemetery where the graves of the Sufczyńskis are located. Thanks to its rich history and events, Sufczyn remains an important cultural and historical element of the region.
