Korfantów

Korfantów, a historic town located in Upper Silesia in the Opole Voivodeship, has a long and complex history dating back to the Middle Ages. Initially known as Hurtlanth, its name evolved through various forms until it adopted its current name in 1946 in honor of Wojciech Korfanty. Architecturally, Korfantów boasts numerous landmarks, including a neo-Gothic fire station from 1910 and a Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity, which dates back to the late 13th century. Among other notable structures is a 17th-century castle complex surrounded by a park, once an integral part of the palace estate. The town underwent various administrative changes and regained its municipal rights in 1993 after World War II. Korfantów hosts cultural events, and the local community is dedicated to preserving historical memory, including commemorating the victims of World War II and tragic past events. Interestingly, Korfantów retains many German influences from the past, visible in place names and monuments. Situated on the Niemodlin Plain, the town is also an important transportation hub.
