wikipedia
Koronowo is a town in northern Poland, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Bydgoszcz County. Its history dates back to the relocation of the Cistercian convent from Byszewo and the founding of a monastery in 1288. The town gained significance after its establishment in 1370. A particularly important event in Koronowo's history was the battle against the Teutonic Knights in 1410, which took place near the town and is commemorated by a monument. Koronowo developed thanks to trade in grain and timber, as well as pottery and brewing industries. Its favorable location on the Brda River greatly contributed to this growth. The architecture of Koronowo features notable landmarks, such as the 13th-century Cistercian complex, the Gothic-style Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Baroque elements, and the Church of St. Andrew. In the 19th century, the "Devil's Mill" was built over the Brda River. During World War II, Koronowo suffered terrible destruction, and the German occupiers established a brutal prison here. After the war, the town became a center of resistance against the communist regime. Today, Koronowo is a popular tourist destination, with numerous hiking and cycling trails and holiday resorts, attracting residents of Bydgoszcz and the surrounding areas. Modernity blends with tradition here, and the local football team, Victoria Koronowo, highlights the town's sporting spirit. The town engages in international cooperation with cities such as Spinetoli, Senden, and Czarny Bór, underscoring its openness to other cultures. Koronowo is a place rich in history, with fascinating architectural and cultural achievements that bear witness to its traditions and regional significance.
