Kowiesy is a rural commune located in the Łódź Voivodeship, within the Skierniewice County, with its administrative seat in the village of Kowiesy. In 2004, the commune had a population of 3,061 and covered an area of 85.63 km², of which 73% was agricultural land and 21% was forested. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, with high-quality soils also favoring fruit growing and vegetable cultivation. The commune is home to several architecturally interesting sites, including churches listed in the register of historical monuments. The Church of St. Martin in Chojnata, dating back to 1334, and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Jeruzal from 1798 are important cultural landmarks tied to the region's history. The commune also features beautiful parks, such as the landscape park in Paplin, as well as a historic manor in Turowa Wola, which gained popularity as a filming location for movies, including "Pan Tadeusz."
An interesting attraction is the Mszczonowski Boulder in Zawady, the largest glacial erratic in Mazovia and the second largest of its kind in Poland.
