Krosno Public Library

The Krosno Public Library is a municipal cultural institution in Krosno that has been promoting readership for years and has received awards such as the Bibliotheca Magna Perennisque Medal and the FRDL Award for outstanding cultural initiatives. Its history dates back to the early 20th century with the first public reading rooms, and the library in its current form was established in 1947. As early as 1948, it had 2,377 books and 820 readers, serving 28 library branches in the region. The merger of the county and city libraries in 1954 and the attainment of the status of a voivodeship library in 1975 underscored its importance in the country. In 1999, it was taken over by the municipal government and renamed the Krosno Public Library, also taking on county-level functions since 2003. Its organizational structure includes the Main Lending Department, the Main Reading Room, the Children's Department, and branches in various parts of the city. The library boasts a rich collection of 265,970 books and 2,450 volumes of periodicals. Annually, it registers around 14,000 regular readers, with daily visits averaging around 700 people. It supports the elderly and people with disabilities by providing access to audiovisual resources and specialized equipment. Additionally, it utilizes information technology, enabling remote reservations and book orders, and operates the Krosno Digital Library. The library organizes a variety of cultural events, such as author meetings, workshops, and competitions, especially for children and youth, and collaborates with other libraries in the Carpathian Euroregion. It publishes regional bibliographies and periodicals and runs a Book Discussion Club. The Krosno Public Library plays a key role in the cultural life of the city, blending history with modernity and facilitating access to knowledge and culture for all residents of Krosno.
