Krotoszyn is an urban-rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Krotoszyn County, with the town of Krotoszyn serving as its administrative seat. Historically, between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Kalisz Voivodeship. Covering an area of 255.52 km², the landscape is predominantly agricultural (64%) and forested (28%). In 2004, the municipality had a population of 40,307, which increased to 40,593 by 2017. Among its administrative villages, notable settlements include Baszyny, Benice, Biadki, and Ustków, as well as numerous non-administrative villages such as Baran, Jastrzębiec, and Sobki. The municipality is surrounded by Dobrzyca, Kobylin, Koźmin Wielkopolski, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Pogorzela, Raszków, Rozdrażew, Sulmierzyce, and Zduny.
