wikipedia
Floriańska Street in Kraków is a vital part of the Old Town, connecting the Main Market Square with St. Florian's Gate. Its history dates back to the city's founding in 1257, and its name refers to both St. Florian's Gate and the Church of St. Florian. The street, which is 335 meters long, is part of the Royal Route. The architecture of the townhouses along Floriańska reflects a variety of styles: Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism. Many of them have undergone renovations over the centuries while preserving interesting details such as polychromed ceilings or Renaissance portals. These townhouses have a rich history associated with prominent residents, including the famous painter Jan Matejko, who was born at 41 Floriańska Street—now converted into a museum. The street was also a hub of artistic activity, home to cabarets, printing houses, as well as restaurants and hotels, which began to dominate from the 18th century onward. An interesting fact is that in 1882, a horse-drawn tram line was launched here, later converted to an electric one. Floriańska is not only a tourist attraction but also a place of pilgrimage for artists, contributing to its cultural value. Despite numerous damages over the years, the townhouses on Floriańska still captivate with their architecture and history, representing the rich heritage of Kraków.
