Kruszwica is an urban-rural municipality in Poland, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Inowrocław County. Its administrative seat is the town of Kruszwica, known for its rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when a strong fortified settlement existed here. The municipality covers an area of 262.19 km², of which 81% is agricultural land and 4% is forested. From a demographic perspective, in 2010 Kruszwica had a population of 20,038, which decreased to 19,213 by 2019. Education is an important aspect of the municipality, with numerous primary schools and middle schools, as well as the Secondary School Complex in Kobylniki, which serves as the foundation of education in the region.
Among its cultural heritage, the municipality of Kruszwica stands out with numerous historical monuments. The most important include the parish church of St. Catherine in Chełmce, the collegiate church in Kruszwica dating back to 1120-1130, the ruins of the famous 14th-century Mouse Tower, and the palace complex in Kobylniki. The municipality also features many 19th-century manor houses, such as those in Lachmirowice, Głębokie, and Ostrówek, which testify to the region's former wealth. Interestingly, Kruszwica is considered one of the oldest places in Poland, with a rich legend associated with the Mouse Tower.
