wikipedia
Krynica-Zdrój is a picturesque town in Poland, nestled in the Beskid Sądecki mountain range, primarily known as a health resort. Its history dates back to 1547 when it was founded by Danek of Miastko. Thanks to its unique mineral springs, the town gained popularity as a center for treating various ailments, especially digestive and urinary system disorders. The first scientific research on Krynica’s waters was conducted by Professor Baltazar Hacquet in the 18th century, marking the beginning of the spa’s development. In 1911, Krynica was granted town rights, and the expansion of infrastructure, such as the gondola lift to Jaworzyna Krynicka, contributed to an increase in the number of visitors. The architecture of Krynica blends spa-style elements with modernism, evident in buildings like the Old Spa House from 1889, the Main Pump Room from the 1970s, and the concert shell, which hosts numerous cultural events. Krynica is famous for the Jan Kiepura Festival, held since 1967, attracting artists and guests from Poland and around the world. Culturally, the town has been a meeting place for many prominent figures, such as Jan Matejko and Józef Piłsudski. Krynica also boasts well-developed sports infrastructure, serving as a popular skiing destination and a venue for international ice hockey tournaments. Interestingly, Krynica-Zdrój once had its own ski jumping hill and is considered the cradle of Polish luge. The region offers numerous hiking trails, making the town attractive not only in winter but also in summer. The safety of residents and visitors is ensured by the local hospital, police, and the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue Service, which is crucial given the area’s tourist and sports activities. Krynica-Zdrój is a place that combines a rich spa history, diverse architecture, and vibrant cultural life, all while evolving into a modern tourist center.
