The municipality of Krypno, located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Mońki County, has an agricultural character and covers an area of 112.69 km², 80% of which is agricultural land. Its main seat, Krypno Kościelne, is primarily known for its Marian sanctuary and the Parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which attracts annual pilgrimages from local residents. In 1985, the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp, crowned the grace-infused image of the Mother of God with the Child Jesus. According to 2004 data, the municipality had 4,170 inhabitants, and its ethnic structure from 1921 shows a strong predominance of Catholics and Polish national identity. Krypno is characterized by its 19th-century church architecture and the Memorial House of Włodzimierz Puchalski, a pioneer of Polish nature documentary filmmaking. The municipality has a developed network of small businesses, primarily in construction and trade, with 216 private entities registered. The area features tourist trails such as the Queen Bona Trail and the Marian Trail, which attract visitors.
