wikipedia
Krzęcin is a rural commune in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Choszczno County, with its seat in the village of the same name. Covering an area of 76.4 square kilometers, it is the smallest commune in the county by population. Despite its small size, the commune is rich in local history and architecture. Between the 10th and 13th centuries, these lands were part of the early Piast monarchy, and in 1269, they were incorporated into the New March. By the 14th century, Krzęcin belonged to the Choszczno County, and the region features several historic settlements dating back to the early 13th century, such as Żeńsko, Chłopowo, and Krzęcin. Key historical landmarks in the commune include churches, such as the 14th-century parish church and gate in Krzęcin, the 18th-century church in Chłopowo, and a granite church from the late 16th century in Żeńsko. The commune is abundant in natural beauty, with numerous lakes like Bukowskie, Chłopowo, and Mielęcino, as well as forested areas. The protected landscape area supports the conservation of local plant and animal species and promotes tourism. Recently, plans have been made to develop agritourism and regional tourism, including potential campsites and cycling trails. The commune is served by the sole provincial road, number 160, and the railway connection established in 1847 greatly facilitates transportation. An important hub is the Słonice train station, located 2 kilometers from Krzęcin. The commune also maintains partnership relations with towns in Germany, such as Franzburg and Randowtal, highlighting its openness to international cooperation. With its rich natural resources, historical landmarks, and development plans, Krzęcin is an interesting region with potential for further cultural and tourism growth.
