wikipedia
Łaszczów is a town in the Lublin Voivodeship, located in the Tomaszów district, with a rich history dating back to the mid-16th century. The first mention of the settlement comes from 1549, when King Sigismund Augustus granted town rights to the locality, previously known as Prawda. The town rights were short-lived, and the town ultimately lost them in 1870, only to be restored in 2010, an event commemorated by a monument in the center. Łaszczów was an important center of the Polish Reformation, with an Arian church and a printing house operating until 1603. In the 17th century, the town suffered from wars and fires, including destruction by the Swedes in 1702. In the 18th century, Józef Łaszcz began the construction of a church, and Franciszek Salezy Potocki ordered the construction of brick buildings after a great fire in 1754. The town had a significant Jewish community, which made up 90.3% of the population in 1897. Until World War II, remnants of its culture remained, but most Jews were murdered during the Holocaust. Łaszczów has several important architectural structures, including the Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul and the ruins of a synagogue. The charm of the town is also enhanced by the remains of the Szeptycki Palace and a park. The town has well-developed infrastructure, with its main street, Fryderyk Chopin Street, access to provincial road No. 852, and local housing estates. Łaszczów serves as a service center for agriculture, with small-scale industry, including manufacturing plants and a fruit cold storage facility. Valuable tourist attractions include graves of those fallen in World War I and a Jewish cemetery. Łaszczów is also home to the football club ŁKS "Korona." Despite historical tragedies, the town has preserved its traditions and cultural appeal, offering both residents and visitors moments for reflection on the past.
