wikipedia
Lipce, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Legnica County, is a village with a rich history dating back to before 1945. Archaeologists have discovered a cremation cemetery of the Lusatian culture in the vicinity of the village, and the first mentions of Lipce date back to the Middle Ages, when the settlement was known as Lynden posch. Notable historical events include battles that took place in the area, such as the 1452 clash between the forces of the Piast duke and the patricians of Legnica, and the 1634 Battle of Legnica, which was part of the Thirty Years' War. Lipce also had its knightly estates and the Annawerde manor farm, and in 1817, a monument commemorating these battles was erected on Wąwelno Hill. Thanks to the development of transportation, the inn in Lipce became a popular destination for the residents of Legnica, and in the 20th century, the village attempted to secure a connection to the Legnica tram network, though this effort was unsuccessful. After World War II, Lipce became part of various administrative units, and after 1990, it gained the status of an independent village. A new cemetery was established on the site of a former military training ground, and part of the military area was transformed into a residential neighborhood of single-family homes. In terms of architecture, a palace from the late 19th century is listed in the register of historical monuments, and the area also features remnants of gardens and a park. Interestingly, Wąwelno Hill was once chosen as the site for a new hospital, though it was ultimately built elsewhere, and the former inn was converted into a minibus transport service after the discontinuation of urban public transport. Today, Lipce serves as an example of a locality where history and local development intertwine with preserved architecture and social functions.
