wikipedia
The Liw commune, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, in the Węgrów County, was established in 1954 through the merger of three former communes: Ruchna, Stara Wieś, and Wyszków. The seat of the commune is the town of Węgrów, while its name derives from the historic village of Liw, known for its castle and its role as the commune's administrative center. The area boasts beautiful landscapes, including parts of the Siedlecko-Węgrowski Protected Landscape Area and the Nadbużański Landscape Park, making the commune attractive to nature lovers and tourists. The commune covers an area of 169.56 km², of which 71% is agricultural land and 22% is forested. In 2004, it had a population of 7,726. Architecturally, the most significant site is Liw Castle, a valuable example of medieval architecture. The palace and park complex in Stara Wieś is another notable attraction, considered one of the most valuable of its kind in Poland. The commune comprises various villages and settlements, including forest hamlets and colonies. An interesting aspect is the rich demographic structure of the commune, where residents actively participate in the cultural life of the region, preserving local traditions.
